Oldman Backyard Ultra.

Run until you can’t

May 3rd, 2025

A unique community running event put on by Youth One - Youth and Family Centre. The Oldman BYU is sure to push individual limits no matter your age or experience. This run for a reason will support an amazing cause with all proceeds going to supporting after school programs, meals and support services for teens.

“The Oldman Backyard Ultra will leave you feeling like one.”

Welcome to the Youth One - Oldman Backyard Ultra Event! This event is situated on Blackfoot Territory and takes place beside the Oldman River amongst the seemingly endless rolling coulees. One of Alberta's first Backyard Ultras, this event is for anyone who wants to test their abilities and see how far they can go on our 6.706 km (4.167 miles) out and back course. Event rules will meet the backyard ultra standards.

We have also designed the event to be a beginning of the season event as a primer for other races you may be doing that year.

The goal of the Oldman BYU is to run a top tier backyard ultra, with all extra proceeds going to Youth One Youth & Family Centre out of Lethbridge.

Registration Cost : $235 - Register here
*Registration includes a catered pre-race dinner, premium running apparel, the best aid station and running vibe this side of Texas!

What is a Backyard Ultra?

Backyard ultras follow a simple rule: runners start every hour on the hour, and follow a 6.71 km course. Pace doesn’t matter, as long as you finish the loop before the one-hour cutoff and are ready to start the next loop on time. After runners finish each loop (or “yard” as it’s called in a backyard race) they may rest, eat, refuel, cry—the options are endless. Racers must simply be at the starting line ready to run every hour on the hour until only one runner is left.

Running for a youthful cause.

This is a non-profit event and Backyard Ultra for a cause! All proceeds and donations will be directed to Youth One. Youth One is Youth and Family Centre founded out of Lethbridge, Alberta that provides free, mentorship based out of school programs and support services for teens 11-18. For every $1500 raised through this event, one individual youths costs will be covered for the entire year, providing unlimited access to meal programs, support services, after school drop-in centre and more. Each year 430 of these individual sponsorships need to be fulfilled. To learn more about Youth One and the impact it is having on southern Alberta's families visit www.youthone.ca

Youth One is a project of Bridges of Hope in Lethbridge. When registration or donations are complete, you will see a transaction from Bridges of Hope.
